Gregers Nissen (1867-1942)

He was ennobled as "king" or "prophet" of bicycle touring in Germany. Gregers Nissen started cycling and travelling in 1884 with a penny farthing and never lost his enthusiasm for the bicycle. Born in remote North Frisia in 1867 he became an orphan child in 1873. His foster father Hans Carl Carstensen raised and introduced him into the world of music. Nissen was educated in Eckernförde to become a primary teacher.
